It includes an English translation made by Opland and a brief preamble, also by Opland. The poem itself concerns the prophet Nongqawuse, a central figure in the infamous Cattle Killing of 1856-7.]

[Source - Henry Fagan for FHYA, 2021: Written by S.E.K. Mqhayi before 1912. Published by Wits University Press in 2009 as part of the book Abantu Besizwe. The translation of the poem was made be Jeff Opland before 2009. The preamble for the poem was written by Opland before 2009. A copy of Abantu Besizwe was acquired by UCT Libraries at an unknown date. The U-Nongqause section of Abantu Besizwe was digitised by FHYA in 2021. It was uploaded by Benathi Marufu for FHYA in 2021.]
