History

[Source - Bews Herbarium website, (currently unavailable), 2016: The Bews Herbarium, University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Pietermarizburg, houses some 150 000 botanical specimens, making it the largest herbarium collection in KwaZulu-Natal. The collection is primarily associated with research on the floras of the eastern seaboard of South Africa. Named after John William Bews, the facility was founded in 1910, in the same year that the Natal University (now known as the University of KwaZulu-Natal). The Herbarium includes a special Ethno-botanical section.]
